Location of fishing lake next to Half Mile Island
The need to upgrade the fishing facilities within Tawd Valley Park was highlighted by respondents in the extensive public consultation last summer. 27% of respondents said they would like to see a Fishing Lake created as part of the development of the park. The need was also identified by The Angling Trust following an independent investigation of current use/provision.
Money has now been secured from Whitemoss Community Fund to upgrade and enhance the existing pond and its surroundings to provide free community fishing facilities within Tawd Valley Park.
Plans include building fishing pegs like this one
The existing informal paths will be upgraded to DDA standards and new fishing pegs will be installed to allow safe access for the whole community. This grant will also be used to install a formalised culvert and outflow, including safety screens. This is essential to maintain water levels in the pond and prevent litter or potential pollution traveling into the River Tawd.
On completion of the project it is planned to establish an angling group to formalise the management of angling at the pond and its maintenance.
Completion is expected by end of December 2018
