Fishing plans and progress
The need to upgrade the fishing facilities within Tawd Valley Park was highlighted by respondents in the extensive public consultation last summer. 27% of respondents said they would like to see a Fishing Lake created as part of the development of the park. The need was also identified by The Angling Trust following an independent investigation of current use/provision.
Money was secured last year from Whitemoss Community Fund, the Angling Trust, and the Environment Agency to upgrade and enhance the existing pond and its surroundings to provide free community fishing facilities within Tawd Valley Park.
The existing informal paths have now been upgraded to DDA standards and new fishing pegs installed to allow safe access for the whole community. This grant has also been used to install a formalised culvert and outflow, including safety screens. This is essential to maintain water levels in the pond and prevent litter or potential pollution traveling into the River Tawd. More information and photos here.
Now that the project is complete, we are looking to establish an angling group to formalise the management of angling at the pond and its maintenance. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Paula using the contact form to the right.
Project start: September 2018
Project completion: December 2018
