Environmental Education Programme
The Environmental Education Programme in Tawd Valley Park is run by West Lancashire Ranger Service and is popular with local schools.
The programme has been designed to help children and young people discover learning outside the classroom. The worksheets and guidance are based around the current National Curriculum and are designed to complement educational workshops held within Tawd Valley Park itself.

What teachers say about the programme:
“Excellent workshop with a focus on rocks and minerals, great connection with my current science topic and enhanced the children’s learning further.” Kate Pugh (Year 3 teacher at St. Thomas the Martyr Primary)
“The children thoroughly enjoyed their morning in the Valley. They had many questions upon their return about the plants they had encountered and wrote some of their poems up neatly for display that they had written that morning. The morning was well planned and the children enjoyed exploring the different areas of the park they visited.” Jack Purcell (Year 5 teacher at St. Thomas the Martyr Primary)
“It was wonderful to hear a child say ‘We don’t need electricity to have fun!” Catherine Phillips (Year 4 teacher at St. Teresa’s Primary)
What children think about the programme:
“Thank you just for everything and just giving a smile to all of us!” Year 4 child (St. Teresa’s Primary)
“Thank you very much for our beautiful adventure” Year 4 child (St. Teresa’s Primary)
“I liked getting outdoors and learning about John Muir!” Year 4 child (St. Teresa’s Primary)
Student placement feedback:
“This placement has shown me a different view on teaching. It has shown me that the outdoors opens up a child’s imagination and children are more willing to learn when they do activities they are interested in.” Student Placement from Edge Hill University
