About us

The Borough Council is working with a range of partners to develop the potential of the park and to provide opportunities for people to enjoy the valley to the full.

West Lancashire Borough Council
West Lancashire Borough Council is leading on the project and is pleased to be working closely with its respective partners on this scheme.

Tawd Valley Park is one of 15 parks and countryside sites the Council is responsible for, and the Council’s Rangers work regularly in Tawd Valley Park to maintain and improve this valuable green space for people living and working in Skelmersdale.

The Council is excited about this project and looks forward to hearing local peoples’s ideas for the park. These will help ensure residents will reap the benefits of the scheme for many years to come.

The River Douglas Catchment Partnership

The River Douglas Catchment Partnership is a Groundwork CLM led and Environment Agency supported consortia of diverse stakeholders including the Wildlife Trust, United Utilities, Councils, Rivers Trust and many others who are committed to improving the health and cleanliness of our waterways for the benefit of both wildlife and local communities alike.
West Lancs CVS

West Lancashire CVS is the key infrastructure organisation for voluntary and community groups in West Lancashire, and supported Groundwork in organising the wide ranging consultation on plans for Tawd Valley Park. The results of this consultation fed directly into the current Master Plan which will guide future development and sustainability of the Park.

West Lancs CVS is part of the Working Group of 10 organisations which co-ordinates the redevelopment of Tawd Valley Park.
SHARES Lancashire

SHARES Lancashire is a leading provider of services to the education sector. Supporting schools, children’s centres and other educational settings, we deliver services that are high in both quality and value to partners who trust the ethos to which we work. As well as support to our cluster of 19 schools, SHARES also delivers a range of programmes and activities to local Skelmersdale and Up Holland children and families. From sporting clubs to family trips, SHARES has activities for all, including our highly successful Holiday Clubs which run each school holiday in one of our Skelmersdale and Up Holland schools.

Groundwork CLM

Groundwork Cheshire Lancashire & Merseyside is both a charitable trust and a social enterprise that has been working to build more sustainable communities across Cheshire and Lancashire since 1985 and Merseyside since 2012.

We do this by helping people and organisations to create better neighbourhoods, to build their skills and job prospects, and to live and work in a greener way.
Environment Agency

Environment Agency works to create better places for people and wildlife, and support sustainable development. It is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs.

We have been a member of the Tawd Valley Park Steering Group since it began and are particularly supportive of the planned improvements to the River Tawd itself.
West Lancashire College

West Lancashire College is a small, community based college operating in association with NCG which is a large and successful national provider of further and higher education and Apprenticeship training.

West Lancashire College is home to around 2,500 learners both young people and adults of all abilities and backgrounds.

We offer programmes from entry level to degree level and every step in between, including BTEC’s and Apprenticeships. Most of our learners progress to higher levels, university and work.

Lancashire County Council

Lancashire County Council (LCC) delivers services such as Highway Maintenance, Traffic and Safety, Transport Policy, Waste Management, Public Protection, Environmental Enhancement and Protection. In Skelmersdale, Lancashire County Council will be supporting the Tawd Valley Park Project by designing and constructing the main cycle route which will run through the Park linking from the town centre to the residential areas and secondary schools in the northern area of the park, with a further direct link to West Lancashire College.
United Utilities

It’s our job to bring great water to 3.2million homes – not to mention 200,000 businesses – and to take it all away again so they can simply get on with their day. Behind the scenes (and often underground) we manage a network of reservoirs, treatment works, pumping stations, and water pipes and sewers to make sure water is always on tap.
Lathom High School

Lathom High School is a small, friendly school and community where everyone is valued and encouraged to be the best they can be and be proud of who they are and what they do. We are also proud of the community we serve and are keen to take every opportunity to contribute to making it a healthy and enjoyable place to live. We will take every opportunity to involve our students in helping to improve the environment of Tawd Valley Park and develop it as a valuable community asset.
